Ambika is currently focused on a Water Security Initiative for the Middle
East. In this regard she is involved in participatory research, analysis,
developing a comprehensive report on water security, and communication with
relevant stakeholders in the region. She organized the first workshop for
the Water Security Initiative, in Montreux, Switzerland in February 2010,
and the High Level Plenary at the WANA Forum in Amman, Jordan in May 2010.
She was invited to be a panelist on the water themed introduction session,
at the 'Rework the World' Summit hosted by the Tallberg Foundation and YES
Inc, in June, 2010.
She is also working on a project which identifies emerging socio-economic
and environmental trends in the Middle East. Prior to this she was involved
in research for the 'Cost of Conflict in the Middle East' report.
Ambika has a MA in Political Science with a concentration in Conflict
Studies from the American University, Cairo in Egypt. She has also spent six
months studying at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. While in Egypt,
she had the opportunity to be an editor for Khamasin, a pilot academic
journal launched by the AUC political science department.
Between degrees Ambika worked as a Program Associate with The Hunger
Project, New Delhi, a national NGO working on capacity building of women's
leadership at the grassroots level. The job gave her the chance to travel
the country to remote villages and experience the other India. While
development is not her primary field of interest, Ambika appreciates that
working with THP gave her a broader view of looking at the world and the
issues that face us today.
Ambika has had the opportunity to present a paper entitled "Exercising
Effective Leadership at the Grassroots: Creating a Just Society" at the
Women as Global Leaders Conference held in Dubai, UAE, March 2008.
