The AK Party of Turkey and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Switzerland co-hosted the SFG Workshop on Cost of Conflict in the Middle East at Antalya, on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey, held from 15-16 March 2008. It brought together thought leaders from Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Arab states, Turkey and Europe.

In his speech he discusses some examples of the various costs incurred through war and how this information can be applied into a preventive diplomacy technique.

of Lords |
Rt. Hon. Lord John Alderdice, Former Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly recommended SFG's report on developing an Inclusive Semi-Permanent Conference to address the problems in the Middle East. The proposal to encourage dialogue amongst various players in the region has come at a crucial time when this year's Arab summit, held in Damascus-Syria, has suffered from weak participation and a poor turn out.
